About the Artist
Ana Alves is a Brazilian artist who works across painting, printmaking, and graphic design. As an illustrator, Ana uses her art-making as a way to slow down, notice, and reflect on her daily experiences. She is inspired by observations made during mundane moments, such as noticing a flower that grows in various houses around her neighborhood when driving her daughter to school. Growing up in a home where art was seen as a luxury rather than a necessity, she is interested in accessibility and how art can become a part of everyday life in underserved communities. Her work exists between reality and imagination, capturing the world through a vibrant and often romanticized perspective. Through her creative and community-based work, she hopes to create opportunities for people to engage with art, find meaning, connection and possibility.
Experience
The Foundry, Cambridge, MA
As a Program Assistant Intern, I supported daily operations by welcoming visitors, assisting program providers, and helping coordinate community events.
During this internship I also built the Creative Collection Box which aims to increase access to art materials and encourage resource sharing within the community, contributed to the branding of their annual festival, and continue to support the organization as a teaching artist.
